I know its been talked about on here before, but, I went for the first time to The Loving Hut in Somyeon on the weekend and thought that it was so delicious. The fried tofu was amazing with salad and a yummy satay sauce, madu soup was delish, fries were many and cheap......all round SO cheap, like, SO CHEAP and really fresh. And really lovely staff too.

I've been there a few times and I agree that their food is top notch and reasonably (if not cheaply) priced.

What turns me off is the TV's on the wall showing SupremeMaster television. The restaurant is affliiated with this organization:

http://suprememastertelevision.com/

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I disagree with their message, I'd just rather have the option of not having to listen to their propaganda when eating.

You can watch the Supreme Master Ching Hai-Ling at work here: http://pop.youtube.com/watch?v=veaBBC1VTtg

P.s. the burger sucks

found the loving hut pretty tasty. buy my share of the korean vegefood products and it is nice to get them in a meal for cheaper than you can buy them in a store. the easiest way to get there is to take the subway/mall exit near judie's taehwa(sp) and walk away from the city center on the same side of the street as judy judy judy judie's. there will be one outback and (i think) a mcdonalds that are catty corner from judie's on your left. keep walking down the main street until you see another outback across the street on your right. do not cross the street to the outback. instead turn left and the the loving hut is on your left just before the 7-11. another option is to go to www.lovinghut.com and look at the map. you can even call. at least two people spoke english there. as far as the suprememastertv goes, the vegefood movement in korea seems to be linked somehow with it. a great sitdown restaurant in insadong in seoul is totally vegan and has the same jazz. they have henry ford listed as a vegetarian and that is my only beef with the supreme folks. on another note, a third vegan restaurant appears to be in pnu, just catty corner from kliff on the bottom floor. they had the suprememastertv going and a vegefood.co.kr sticker, but the menu was all in korean. i said 'gogi opsyo' a few times before this middle aged guy looked up fro his soup and said 'this is a vegetarian restaurant.' hopefully try it out soon. if anyone else gives it a taste, please share some info. oh, the burger is koreanized, but still a veggie burger. good enough considering that is the first one i have had in korea at a restaurant.

joyful balls? yeah, my wife refused to share or stop, even though i kept shouting 'those are my joyful balls your chewing!'

That place near KLIFF has a simple but really fresh 100% vegan menu. It's called 가얏고 and is on the corner between KLIFF and Crossroads. Small place with a large glass picture window and a few wooden tables.

They basically have 3 soup dishes, 김치 콩비지찌게 (a kind of bean curd stew), 밀고기 전골 (a fake meat stew type thing), and another dish I haven't tried yet. The side dishes are changed frequently and are all fresh and unique. They said they use no msg, low sodium, and no animal products, yet there's still a lot of flavor in the food. It's 8,000 per head. The woman even said there is no anchovy in the kimchi.

Yes, the tv is on with the above-mentioned channel, but it's unobtrusive & the volume is off. I honestly didn't even know what it was until I read this thread. I'd take that over 4 guys bonking each other on the head with plastic squeaky mallets at full volume any day..

Just as a matter of interest, the address of the place is:

한마당1로 100.

Phone number: 051-808-7718.

Go to www.daum.net and use their mapping function. Select "roadview" and place it over the intersections on the map where you're supposed to make turns. You'll get a good picture of the road if they have any in their database. You can even rotate the origin of the view.

Love the Supreme Master Ching Hai vege restaurants..might be a wierdy religious bunch (half Buddhist half Catholic!) but they do great vegetarian food - if a little too much of the faux meat ..but they're only mirroring korean food in general i suppose..

There's another vegetarian cafe in Nancheon called 'Ecotopia'- worth a mention if only cos it's affiliated with a youth group who are inspiring and fairly unusual in Korea - they're a political/human rights/environmentalist group and run an great bookshop/multi-purpose venue 'Indigo Suwon" round the corner....they went on a world tour recently and met among others Noam Chomsky and Peter Singer.... the restaurant is all volunteer run so check out the opening times - (fairly infrequent) - before ..

directions: Namcheon subway get out by Hi-mart, turn right by Hi Mart road...aprox 100meters (2 blocks)and it's on the right hand side

regarding the vegetarian 'restaurant'...it's crying out for volunteers to make it better..at the moment it's bibimbap and veg curry...that's it...I asked if they would be open to a foreigner to help out and do a day or two a month and they were pretty receptive to the idea...so if anyone is up for it.......
oh be wary ..the ajumas make the kimchi with fish (ie not vegetarian) then claim its not...
Go give them support though...they are a cool friendly youth group..good to see

Theres also a new 100% vegetarian buffet at Kyungsung/Pukyong university area

Its next door to the Chen Chen chinese place, oppisite Pukyong small gate entrance.

I think it's run by same people as the Seomyeon one..they're very simlilar. 11,000 as much as you can eat..

heres the direction..

Directions: On the main road that runs between Pukyong University and Kyungsung university. From Kyung Sung, walk down toward Pukyong on the right of the road, keep going you will pass Paris Baguette, Dunkin Donuts and a Family Mart it's a little past Family Mart. Chen Chen is surrounded by lots of Chinese red lanterns...Next building down (i think it has a KLI language school there too) 4th floor - big green sign..

the burger DOES suck doesn't it!!? BUT - the key is to also buy the delicious big deep fried tofu wedge, and to jam that in with the burger, makes for mighty fine eating
