September!??DAMN! Last I read in a article from the Chosun daily they were saying it would be open around July? the ground breaking was 12/5th, how long does it take to put up some walls and a roof, not like they have to design much, just big ass shelves and unpainted concrete.

Fantastic. Thanks for doing the legwork.

I took a drive by the site yesterday. They've got the pylons in and they're working on the last quarter of the 2nd story. The building is still concrete supports and dirt but it's coming along. I, for one, can't wait!!

Digging the foundation is always the longest part of a construction job. Should go quick from here.

Who would have believed that the building of one shop could cause so much excitement! It's like we are getting electricity for the first time!

Can't wait either...

I'm stoked. Where exactly is it? Nearest subway stop and general directions, please biggrin.gif

It's going to be on the river, kind of opposite Centum city I think.

Yes, that's true. The nearest landmark is going to be the bridge that has the giant Busan Arch (the official name is?) over it. On the Suyeong side of the river, opposite The Sharp (The #) Centum Park apartments, drive past this (toward Dongnae, away from the ocean) and take one of your next few left hand turns. At the next corner, take a right and drive about two minutes (this road angles slightly away from the river) up the road. It will be on your left.

As for subway station, I would have to say that Suyeong will be your closest subway station. The Costco isn't really a quick walk from there. I would likely take a taxi (I live right behind Suyeong Station). Your best bet in this case would be to go out exit number 5 and then hail a taxi. Go straight about 2 minutes and you'll see a GS25 Gas Station on the left. That's where your taxi should turn. It should continue straight on that road, going past the Busan New Taxi parking lot. At this point you'll either go straight (great) or turn right (still no worries). If you turn right, you'll dead-end at the river and will then take a left. From this point, you should use the directions from the first paragraph.

If you went straight after hailing a taxi in the last paragraph, you will continue down to an awkward four way intersection. At this intersection, you want to go straight/rightish (the road you're heading on to isn't exactly straight across but that's the best I can give you). Then, drive straight for 4-5 minutes, it'll be on your left.

I realize these directions seem convoluted and I agree that they are if you haven't been back in that area. But once you actually go there, you'll see it's quite simple. As I said, it's not within a quick walk, but would probably take you at least a 1/2 hour your first time. After that, maybe you could figure out a shortcut.

On this map link that I have posted, the arched bridge is 촤수영교. You should take a left after that and then your first right. The Costco will be on the left hand side of that road, just past the Steelworks (거려제강) and roughly across from MiGwang Taxi (미광택시). If you move the map up, you'll see Suyeong Subway Station and to the right of that, up the road a bit, you should see the stylized GS for the gas station turn off that I mentioned.

Wow, now I think that I'm turned around. If this is not clear, please post specific questions and I'll do my best to clarify how to get there! Maybe I'll run Costco tours from the subway station and back!

Cheers!

Subject: the discount warehouse, COSTCO, will open 7/8

The American discount warehouse, Costco, is opening in Busan on July 8th. The membership for one year costs 35,000 won (Goldstar member) , but if you apply NOW, before July, they will give you 30,000 won in gift certificates that will make the net cost 5,000 won !!!

If you buy a membership now, then you will have an extra two months membership to use your card in Taegu or Seoul or (7 stores in Korea).

The warehouse will be located along the river, between Suyoung Rotary and the river, across from Centum City. When you drive or bus across to Centum City/Shinsaegae from Millak dong, on your far left you can see another bridge over the river. That is about where you will find the temporary and final warehouse. It will be a very large one-story building with a huge parking lot.

If you are a single person applying, then you will probably need to go to the location (at the temporary office) to pay your money.. however, if there are "groups" of people who want to buy a membership, then the local Costco representative will COME TO YOU! They will sign you up, collect your money, issue temporary cards, and give you the coupons to use.

For application information in ENGLISH, call 010-8003-9952. In Korean: 751-7100
