Can someone post the details? I've been checking this board a dozen times in the last two weeks hoping for tips so we can start booking.

Menu (no cajun turkey this time hopefully. Regular turkey last Thanksgiving was delicious. Christmas was a bit of a disappointment.
Soccerstar
Anyone? Busanfoodguy?
Oscar
I was down there the other week and looked at the menu but couldn't give you any specifics. It had Turkey, maybe ham, vegetables, pie stuff like that.

If you do a search for Seaman's club threads (perhaps an old christmas/easter/thanks giving one) on this site you should be able to find one that has the phone number. If you give them a call they'll be happy to give you the details.
Soccerstar
Thanks Oscar, I suppose I could call them and ask and then post the results.
I know a lot of people who are waiting for details, so I'll try to get that soon.
becksta
do you think it will be possible to get into seamans club for thanksgiving, if you dont have a membership?
Oscar
Yes, for thanksgiving it is open to the general public.

I just called the Seaman's Club and they are charging everyone 23,500 kw. I checked with some other friends and that's what they were charged too. But it is worth it for me so we booked it.
busanfoodguy
The Thanksgiving Buffet is only at the Pier 3 Seamen's Club...11am~10:30pm (last reservation/entry)(buffet open to 11:15 for those arriving late evening).

Pier 8 will not be open. There's so little interest in that location, and Pier 3 isn't that far away, plus staffing for a major event requires me to pull everyone into the central location where 400+ are being served.

Reservations are going good, but we'd sure like more to make early reservations. We've already locked out the 6:30~8pm time period because we're completely booked for all tables in that time.

I concur; while still good, their xmas buffet wasn't nearly as good as the Thanksgiving one.

Pier 3 and Pier 8, very interesting I never knew they had two locations here. The only one I knew was right behind Busan Station.
acornrevolution
If I'm going to the Seaman's club by taxi from Haeundae, what should I say to the taxi driver. I realized that the last (and only) time I went, someone else gave directions!
matt sid
It's dooable if you know where you are going. Pier 3 is Sam Beon Bu Du (3번 부두) . Which is on that road that runs down to immigration. The Seamans club is literally at the bottom of the ramp that takes you up to Busan station. Try and get him to stop there.

Failing that a fool proof plan is to take a taxi to Busan station and walk out the back door to the car park and head to the main road and walk down the aforementioned ramp (to get out the back door it's near where you board the KTX trains to the far left with your back to the main door.
johnhenry
Please don't walk down the car ramp. That's a dangerous thing to do. For pedestrians, there's an elevator at the top of the car ramp. You can either take the elevator or the stairs next to it.

I just called Seaman's Club and the takeaway dinner with a large turkey and all the sides is actually $120, so after conversion it is 173,000 won. Just the large turkey is $90 or 130,000 won.

Well if you are too lazy or too inept in the kitchen to cook a TG meal yourself, I guess you gotta shell out the cash.

Convection ovens rock!

I've called 7 times in the past 2 days and every time it's busy.

You know perfectly well that the supply of turkeys here are limited and that the majority of apartments here don't come with an oven. So for many the Seaman's club either buffet or take out is the only option.

However, I am interested on your comments on convection ovens. In the market myself. What sort do you have, and how much did it set you back? There seems to be 3 price ranges available here. Under 100 bucks (more like a glorified toaster oven) 100-200 bucks looks like a big toaster oven but has convection capabilites and 300-500 bucks looks like a microwave, but is convection.
busanfoodguy
I bought a Convex Turbo Convection (Korean made) oven about two years ago. Megamart had them for about $200, but I went online and got it for $130!
Costco carries the Black and Decker brand the last time I looked.

It has two fans (but neither blows heated air. Only the most expensive ovens do that). It has two shelves and came with two rectangular non-stick pans with grills..

If I take out one shelf, I can bake or roast a very large chicken. I bake bread. I roast meats. I grill steaks. I defrost frozen stuff. I make yogurt. Pizza. Stew. Baked beans.
It has extended the range of my kitchen capabilities a long way. The only thing I wish it could do better is to grill steaks more quickly.. to blacken/sear them. The single elements just aren't big enough/ hot enough for flash grilling like under hot flames.

I would recommend one !! Bring something over and cook it, I'll show you.

Yes, what's with this?! I just sent my husband to pre-pay as when I placed our take-away order I was told we needed to do so. Last year some friends paid when they picked up the dinner so I thought it'd be easy but fine whatever, we'll pre-pay. I tried to pay with credit card over the phone but they said it had to be in person. I was quoted 120,000 won for the large dinner and added an extra pie for 15,000 so the total confirmed by phone was 135,000. So my husband shows up and is told first of all no credit card and oh, by the way, it's $135.00 USD. I am so angry now! It took three phone calls to get the order in and even then I was quoted different prices than other friends who are taking away as well. (One friend thinks she's paying 99,000 won and now she's not sure what she's getting!)

Anyone else having this problem? My husband called from the restaurant and I told him to ask for Walt as he's normally very helpful but he said he wasn't in. I feel like it's a bait and switch with the price going from won to USD. Not even sure I have that much US cash on us!!! What a pain. (And please spare me the "cook it yourself" replies! I can't deal with that now!)
Oscar
You can pay in won. They just convert it. The exchange rate there is set at 1300 won to the dollar now so your $135 will be about 176,500 won.
tyster
1300 to the dollar? Are you sure? The official rate is over 1500 today and even at the time of your posting was right around 1500. Seaman's has always offered a much worse KRW to USD rate than the official rate.
Oscar
They may have readjusted but I was there sometime last week (forget which day) and the conversion was still 1300 (and had been for quite a while). I did notice that this was on a day the American dollar went upto 1450+. There may well be another increase in the conversion rate soon but as of last week they hadn't.
