I looked thru the posts and didn't see any comments about Van Gogh's Terrace. I've eatten there twice and was very pleased. The first selling point is that most tables are outside. It is surrounded by a lovely flower garden, and overlooks the ocean and the Kwangan Bridge. Hard to find a more charming location-assuming the weather is pleasant. I love the European al fresco dinning style, and so I was really happy to see it being adapted to Korea.
The food was also very high quality. Good garlic bread, with grilled garlic cloves and boiled potatoes, as the appetizer. I tried the fettucini alfredo, which was wonderful. Light cream sauce, with large fresh mushroom, over large green noodles. Crushed peanuts sprinkled on top. We also tried a salad-greens and veggies served over a base of lightly grilled mushrooms. Very unusual, and great flavor. They also have a variety of cheese cakes (which we didn't try.) Definately a cut above the standard Italian fare offered in Pusan. Cost was about 5-6,000won for salad and 15,000won for entree. As a bonus, there is an Italian gelatto shop around the corner.
Location is on the waterfront, in the new apartment developments in Centum City (Trump Tower, Hanwha Resort). Turn at the Homever (on the main Haeundae road) and drive toward the ocean. Once you hit the water, turn toward the Westin Chosun and look for the restaurant on the left. There's a Krazy Burger on the end, and an outdoor Korean restaurant next door.

I agree location is wonderful. Food is quite good. Service is very good.
However as a warning, don't order the sets. They appear to be a good deal, offering lots of different dishes for your money. But, the portions are so miniscule it's laughable. The few mouthfuls we did get were very good though.
Dishes of note were the the tomato and mozarella salad which uses the whole mozarella and nice large fresh tomatoes in a light olive dressing.
Although I warned against the sets, there are several dishes that appear on them that aren't on the main menu. Next time I go I am going to ask if they could serve one as a main entree.

Food was good,
owner/manager/host... did not seem to happy to have a westerner/western-Korean couple to serve. The service was then so so.
I also had the salad with roasted Fungi, it was really good. seemed to have trained chefs and not just people cutting veggies on the floor of the kitchen...
Sadly I ate a resto in Itaewon yesterday and the food was great, no crap about being western and the quality is what you would expect from a good resto...
not having a I love Busan day I guess...

Went here last night. The location and atmosphere is great. We both had the fettucine alfredo which was quite good. We were pretty disappointed in teh portion size though. We both could have eaten about double what they served us. The wine was horribly expensive (more than the hotels even), so we didn't order any. The deserts were just pre-made cakes that looked straight fro mthe Tous Le Jours down teh street.
We'll go for the great location, view, outdoor seating, and food sometimes, but they need to up the portion sizes if they want us to make it a regular spot.

Hey Kat, seems your taste in food and entertainment are similar to mine, have you been to any of the new Italian restos down in the Hotels near Paradise?
Last time I ate at the Italian place in the Paradise it was excellent, but spendy, do you have a place you guys like?

Unfortunately, no. We haven't been to the place in the paradise in years. It was good when we went, but its so pricey. The only good place we've found in KOrea for italian is in Itaewon. It's called Sortino's or Santini's or something like that. It's past the fire station and its EXCELLENT! Unfortunately, it's in Seoul.
Our main eateries in Busan are Tacos Al Pueblo, Hello Thai, Ganga's, Novotel for the pizzas, Ventana's (when we feel like blowing some cash), O'Kim's so my hubby can have fish and chips, TGI Friday's for salads, Kebabistan for a change of pace, and the Seamen's Club. We cook a lot at home and bring a lot of stuff back with us from the states.
We liked Van Gogh a lot, but for the price, we expected to be at least not hungry when we left. It's a great place for a date though, but you would have to order an appetizer each and be ready to drop more than 100,000 if you ordered wine.

I would agree with what you have said about Van Go's Terrence. When we ate there we pretty much needed to get a burger afterward.
I will have to try the fish and chips. Unfortunately I feel the same way about Ganga's. Unless I spend an inordinate amount of money, I leave hungry and I am not a huge eater. Just normal.
And after the last 2 trips to the seaman's club and the unbelievably poor service and even worse food, I have been forbidden from going there.

Have you tried Venetia in Hadan. Get the subway to hadan and walk towards the University it is on the left hand side. Trevor can give you better directions than I can. I am in Jinju now and loving it. No indian but maybe found an eclectic restaurant. I was introduced to Japanese noodles. Wow fabulous.

yep, those half-a-dozen restos that popped up this Summer @ SooYoung GuLF .
real estate brokers lured them into making a bundle
from cream-of-the-cream residents living in the latest high-rise apartments in Pusan .
a Chinese-Fusion chain above a tiny art gallery,
Kraze Burger, a Korean Soup Resto, this Van Gogh, and the Revolving Sushi Place .
I've tried all of them a couple of times and have come to realize
they're more in name and flashy pizzaz than true taste of a connoisseur .
this goes the same for the ones that opened just prior to the above
on ground zero of the now-old BeneCity High-Rise(across from Ops Bakery).
a stark contrast on Italian Cuisine
would B the one on the 2nd floor of the new-also SeaCloud Hotel
across from the NovoteL (former Marriott)
where the master chef from SeouL orchestrates his delicacies
but a tad, expensiF on its own right

we tried this Van Gogh for lunch a few days after opening
and took a nice-view seat on the terrace .
very kind service, very European-looking dishes
(but Korean-Western in taste, evolved from end-of-the-decade Japanese-Western).
just as we finished our entree
a waiter notices a piece of laundry flown from the high-rise apts.above
has landed atop the canopy above us .
the manager directs the waiter to go on top of a table across from us
(the waiter hesitates, but the manager says it's "OK")
stepping on the table with his SOCKS AND A BROOM-in-hand .
the waiter fluffs the canopy with the broom and down falls the laundry .
and as we leave, a new customer is kindly greeted
and seated @ that very table without being wiped after stepping .

If you don't know Haeundae well, it's a bit tricky to get there. I would suggest getting off at Dongbaek or Haeundae subway stop or taking buses 1003 or any of hte ones that go to Haeundae Station and get off at Haeundae Station. (Dongbaek is closer). Take a taxi from there and tell the driver Hanwha Resort (Han wah Ree Joer tuh). From tehre walk out to the water and you should see the restaurants soon.
http://www.krazeburger.co.kr/ click on store
Bottom row, 5th from the left is Haeundae.
The map is mediocre at best, but it does have their phone number if you want to call while you re in the taxi.
These directions suck, but these restaurants are in an odd place.

I gave directions to a friend like this (she still got lost, but it might work for others).
Get yourself to the Dongbaek Homever. Put the main entrance on your right and turn down the road on your right, walk down beside Homever. Follow that road to the end (down by the water; you'll see the concrete 'jacks' used as a breakwater). Turn left. Walk. The road curves back towards the main road. Just before the curve, you'll see Kraze Burger/Van Gogh's on your left.

[by subway] 10 minutes walk
get off @
DongBaek Sta.(1 stop BEFORE HaeWoonDae) Exit No.#1 .
once U reach ground level there will B a small pedestrian opening
between the bushes that act as a wall for Marina Apartment Complex .
go thru it and keep walking straight(1 large block, South-bound toward the sea) .
U will come across a large crossing with
HomeEver Mart(former CarreFour) to your right .
cross it and keep walking straight (3 large blocks)
untill U reach the sort-of-boardwalk in front of the sea .
onto your left there will B a row of sea-front restaurants
and
Van Gogh is the third one, after Kraze Burger & Korean Soup Resto.
[by bus/car] 5 minutes walk
get to
HomeEver Mart mentioned above and take the road next to their corner entrance
and rest is the same .. enjoy

Biba,
Your directions worked perfectly. I would like to make a slight addition to them, though: when you go through the pedestrian bath through the hedge, bear left. I went there today because I didn't want to get lost taking a friend there next week.

Well, I went there with a date last night. I ordered one of the alfredo dishes ('cause it was one of the vegetarian-friendly options) and my date ordered one with clams. Both dinners had large plates and they were well-filled. The bread plate had two types of bread, pickled chestnuts, and garlic cloves (I don't remember now if the cloves were pickled--I didn't eat them). The manager and the wait-staff were very courteous and professional. The only thing we didn't like about it is that it takes too long to get there from our homes. From the subway station near my apartment, it takes about 40 minutes to get there. And my date's home is one stop further away than mine.

I saw you there.
The chestnuts weren't pickled, they were boiled. The garlic was roasted. Food was excellent but very pricey. Lamb chops were W38,000 for three smallish portions.

Guess it tasted pickled to me 'cause I had just inhaled one of the pickles from the ever-present pickle plate.
Hey, where were you sitting? We were right next to the door. I even liked the view from there.
