The Manager of the Seamen's Club would like to know what kind of specialty nights you would like to have..
What kind of food do you miss the most?

Please add your choice to his poll.

Can I please get a definitive answer on the status of the Seamans club? I have read that pier 8 is open for drop in when not busy, I have heard that non-members should not even attempt to go as they will be refused entry, I have heard non-members may attend special days like Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc with reservations only.

Is a straight answer possible or is it still a "depends on the eclectic attitudes of whichever person is in charge of the door". Thank you

Membership is required.. and if there is any lapse in that policy, we should not get anyone in trouble by mentioning it on an open forum.... Military security monitors this forum. I know of people, recently, who have been carded, while eating. Perhaps there are random checks?

The Club will have an open house (non-member) buffet for Thanksgiving. I hope to be able to advertise it in November. Reservations are wise to make sure you have a table!

The phone number for the club is: 462-8029

Thank you Busanfoodguy for the prompt and informative answer.

My guess is that there is a real need for good home cooked meals in Busan. So many foreigners were turned away from the old seaman's club, its no wonder they shut down. I know, it was for the elites and not for us disgusting English teachers, but the point I am trying to make is that if there was a person or team who could match the Seaman's club for taste and price, and opened it to the public, it might just be the busiest place in town. IMHO

I think you got the wrong idea. I'm sure busanfoodguy can tell you more in detail what the actual situation was regarding "disgusting English teachers" vs so called "elites" but I'll just sum it up by saying you're one hundred percent wrong as to why they closed. In any case Walt, the manager, is a solid guy and he had no problem with English teachers and it was not his decision to bar anyone.

The Seamen's Club is considered part of US Army Garrison in Daegu now. Before Camp Hialeah closed, it was under that installation's purview. The club operates under the laws and regulations applying to USAG-D. One regulation provides for the authorized customer base of the Seamen's Club. Busanfoodguy, IIRC, already posted why the Pier 5 branch closed: the city is revamping that area. It has nothing to do with "elites."
