A teacher friend just arrived this week. She beat the December 15th deadline and got all of her
documents in on time so she would not have to do the interview. No interview, no hassle. However, the consulate in the states said that for her to receive an E2 (her third) she would have to do an interview. They would not issue an E2 until she did the interview although all of her documents were in before the 15th. So she drove the 800 round-trip journey for the interview. OK, no problem. Abide by the new rules. Another teacher will arrive at my school later this month. He didnt beat the December 15th deadline. No problem. Get the criminal, take the HIV test, fill out the medical form, have an interview. Originally, we were told he only needed the previously required documents (transcripts, diploma, etc...) to process his visa here. He could bring the other documents with him into the country and give it to immigration himself, but after he received his visa and after he arrived. Recently he called the Korean consulate in New Zealand, where he is now. Consulate said "You taught in Korea. Oh, you dont need the medical tests or the criminal background. And, you don't need the interview because you already were a E2 holder." OK...... No interview? No medical tests? No criminal background check? We called the Korean immigration office to confirm. Now they say he must send his HIV test results and criminal background here in order to even begin the visa processing, the pin number. A few questions. Question 1: Are there different rules for different nationalities? (Why would one country require an interview but not another?) Question 2: The latter teacher has to fill out a medical form. Where can he download it? Questions 3: Where can I read the new regulations? Question 3: Can I swim to Japan from here? |

to answer your questions here is what every one knows:
I. It all DEPENDS {make your own list of reasons and you will be as correct as anyone else.} 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. |

This is fairly standard stuff for Korea, no one really knows what's going on and each immigration office, consulate and embassy enforces the rules in whatever way the do or don't interpret them. There is no official version, there is no recourse you just jump through what ever hoops you are told to jump through and hope you make it here eventually.

This is the perfect example of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. . The next few months are going to be interesting for visa renewals to be sure... |

Trivia, I guess: I'm an EPIK/BEP teacher, extended my contract by three months. Going to extend my visa shortly. Co-teacher called Immy for some extra info, they said I DON'T need a criminal record check because I'm already an EPIK teacher. I do, however, need the TB/HIV test.
Make of that what you will. What he said... This is the perfect example of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. . The next few months are going to be interesting for visa renewals to be sure...

What he said... This is the perfect example of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. . that's inaccurate. it's more like the left pinky doesn't know what the left ring finger is doing, while the left thumb is lost somewhere near the elbow, and the two index fingers decided to go to vegas and hire male strippers, just as the left middle finger decided to take a lunch break. on the right hand, only the index is accounted for (in vegas), while the rest haven't been heard since the norebang party in the russian section of texas street.... oh, and isn't archeologist banned? |
